Rideshare FAQ

Rideshare

Members of a carpool/vanpool agree upon rules and schedules. Typical agreements might specify that:

  • Drivers alternate and no money is exchanged
  • One person always drives and the passengers contribute to the cost of gas and parking
  • Members meet at a central location, such as a Park and Ride lot
  • Drivers pick passengers up at their homes or offices

Carpool success tips:

  • Determine route and schedule
Establish the pickup and drop -off locations and times
  • Decide on responsibilities
Set up a schedule to alternate drivers on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis
  • Establish a reimbursement arrangement
If members don't share the driving equally, agree on how the costs will be shared and when payment is due
  • Establish policies
Determine how long a driver should wait, whether or not people may smoke, eat, drink, play music, etc. and respect your fellow carpooler's wishes
  • Create a chain of communication
Drivers should contact their riders ASAP in the event they are unable to drive so that alternate arrangements can be made, and riders should inform the driver if they will not be commuting
  • Be safe
Follow all laws and ensure that your vehicle is well maintained and clean
